RAF // 20 Minutes and A Beer
Go ahead and click it, if you're local, you won't want to miss out! My friend has asked me a couple times to join him at this monthly event, and I hadn't been to one in quite a few years. I'm so glad I went this week! Not only are opportunities like this amazing for networking, they're beyond inspiring. I've been to a couple of events where I stood in the middle of the room pretending I wasn't the most awkward, uncomfortable person there, but this event was the opposite. First off, 20 minutes? Yep, I can find that kind of time. Beer? There. It's a bunch of like minded individuals, so it's fair game to introduce yourself to anyone with a "here's my elevator speech" or even "hey i'm a designer, i work at xyz, what do you do?" Anyway, the real gold is the guest speaker. This week, Pete VonDerLinn, VP / Creative Director, at Partners + Napier, came to talk with us. The topic: "Reframing the ask: How bold questions lead to better work". He opened our eyes to asking question, or looking at solutions in different forms, and I loved every minute of it. I can't wait to start attending these events more frequently, and I'm proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and introducing myself to him!
